Listed Cottage Refurbishment & Extension
Set in the centre of the picturesque Surrey village of Shere, this project involved the refurbishment and extension of an early 18th century cottage. The house had undergone a series of unsympathetic extensions to the rear and lacked any dedicated dining space, with the existing kitchen blocking any meaningful connection with the garden beyond.
Due to the Grade II Listed status and the location in both a Conservation Area, Green Belt and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there were limitations on the size of the extension that could be added.
Our proposals involved the refurbishment of the ground floor accommodation and the addition of a new oak framed extension that replicates the roof forms of the adjoining terrace and echoes the origins of the original timber framed cottage.
Externally a small sunken patio was added, providing a sheltered sun-trap accessed directly off the new dining room extension.
